Last Minute Valentine’s DIY

Love Mug 5 Last Minute Valentines DIY

I think Valentine’s Day might be the easiest holiday to make quick DIY decor for. Probably because the color scheme is so simple and most anything looks cute if you add a few hearts to it. I’ve always wanted to try using Martha Stewart’s ceramic paints on something. A few months ago I picked up her pearl gloss paint in red, purple, and green hoping that the right project would come to me one day. Since the hubby and I will be dining out this V-Day, I plan on making a special breakfast instead. I had some plain white mugs that I picked up for 25 cents at Goodwill lying around and decided to make some Valentine’s mugs for Thursday morning.

I started off thinking I was going to stencil on a pretty design but as it turns out, the curved surface just made everything too messy.  Duh, right? I ended up just hand painting the word “love” on one mug and a heart on the other. I actually think it turned out better this way and makes it a little more personalized. I filled the mugs with some mini roses and an air plant to have out until Thursday but the little roses are so pretty, I might just put them on the breakfast tray as decoration.
