I’d be lying if I said I just brought out the candy hearts today. I actually tried to get them three weeks ago and the lady at the grocery store looked at me like I was speaking to her in Cantonese. I guess I was a little hasty in my quest to start celebrating Valentine’s Day. I don’t even like candy hearts, in fact, I actually think they are pretty tasteless. But I do love having little bowls of them around the house. They are so bright and cheerful and who doesn’t like seeing sweet little messages on a rough Monday Morning?
I was listening to Pandora while unpacking my groceries one day when the song, “Jar of Hearts” by Christina Perri came on. I started thinking about the set of random mason jars I got from the thrift store last year. I usually use them as vases but thought they would look cute filled with pastel candy hearts. Since my husband or I don’t eat the candy anyway, I added a few dowels with X’s and O’s glued to the ends. It was by far the easiest way to bring some Valentines cheer to the kitchen.
