I can’t believe this little blog has been around for a year! Actually, my blogiversary snuck up on me so fast, I missed it by a whole month! As with any sort of celebration my motto is always better late than never. So without further ado, Happy Blogiversary Lacquer & Linen!
For nostalgia’s sake, I looked back over my first few months of posts and couldn’t help but chuckle a bit. One major thing I have learned is that, like many other things, blogging is an ever evolving process. It takes a while to get into a groove, to find your voice. When I first started blogging, my posts were pretty formal and to the point. After a few months, I became frustrated with the impersonal nature of my blog and I didn’t feel like I was connecting with my readers. Slowly, I started to write how I really wanted to write and post about topics that really interested me. What a concept right?
As part of my never ending effort to improve Lacquer & Linen, I stumbled upon Holly Becker’s e-course, Blogging Your Way. I learned so much through what she shared about her success with Decor8 and left the class feeling motivated and inspired. I have once again enrolled in her Bootcamp class this month for some fresh inspiration and have already discovered some great new blogs.
As she has asked students to do in her previous courses, Holly encouraged us to make a blog mood board showing how we see our blog and what inspires us. I did this exercise last year and found it to be really helpful in guiding the direction of my blog. I decided to participate again this time and see where I am at a year later.
I put together a few things that inspire me and highlighted topics I enjoy writing about. I always debate about adding new topics to my blog like food and drinks or including more posts about party planning. If it seems like people are interested in these areas I will start to incorporate them in the future. I am also throwing around ideas about a site redesign, what do you think? If I do go through with it, I will be looking for talented graphic designers, so if you have any suggestions, let me know!
If you’re curious about the board I made last year, I dug up a photo to show you where I thought my blog would be headed over the next year or so. I would say that with the exception of fashion topics, L&L has stayed pretty true to my original vision. Definitely one area that has taken on more importance is crafting and DIY. These are usually the posts I have the most fun with and my readers seem to enjoy the most.
Well, I will end this post by thanking all my wonderful family, friends and readers for their constant support and encouragement. I watched this site grow from just 800 hits per month to over 16,000 and have connected with so many other awesome bloggers. I have found so much inspiration through my readers, I truly appreciate every single one of you!
